Lambeth Council transferred £2.4 million to Capital Community Foundation to launch the Lambeth Community Fund. The Council transferred the assets of the Pedlar’s Acre Trust to the Community Foundation, freeing up extra money for community groups, charities and social enterprises across the borough.

The unique collaboration between the Council and Capital Community Foundation is the first step towards growing the endowed Lambeth Community Fund with an initial target of reaching £3.5million within the next three years.

“At the time of the credit crunch, it’s great that we can be the first to create such an innovative community fund. It’s fantastic that a trust created in the 17th century can continue to have a real impact on people’s lives.  We hope our partnership with Capital Community Foundation helps pave the way for other organisations to find innovative ways to support their communities.”

“We’re delighted that this partnership has been recognised by the Charity Times Awards.  We’ve taken an innovative approach to managing these charitable assets to ensure that funds continue making a difference. The unique skills and knowledge provided by the Charity Commission and Community Foundation Network mean that a range of solutions can be offered. To get such recognition from within the sector is testament to our approach.

Our relationship with Rathbones extends beyond just financial sponsorship. They have provided additional support and advice and have really embraced the principle of the Boost Initiative for enhancing charitable investment nationally.”
