Community Foundations
Community foundations are charities located across the UK dedicated to strengthening local communities, creating opportunities and tackling issues of disadvantage and exclusion.
The Community Foundation Network represents the community foundation movement in the UK.
The network has grown rapidly over recent years and there are now 57 community foundations throughout the UK. More than 95% of the population lives in the area of benefit of a community foundation. The Network is the fifth largest financial provider to charities, having distributed £75 million last year.
Community foundations deliver philanthropic aims on behalf of their donors, via grants and support to local groups and individuals, to help them build stronger communities and tackle social issues. Working with donors who are passionate and care about their community, community foundations especially aim to build endowment funds that will support future generations.
43 community foundations are associates of the Boost Initiative, and all have been trained by the Charity Commission and the Boost Initiative in Charity Law and how to work with trustees of dormant, inactive and ineffective charitable trusts to ensure that their charitable assets are maximised in their local community.
